My husband and I had taken our car before to them and had good service. This time when I picked up my car it was running which seemed odd. Drove my car home and when I shut it off my engine coolant fan kept running. Called them back and Rico the shop manager said it did this all day and ran down the battery. Amazing when we dropped it off this morning my car was not doing this and my husband came back later to give them the key it was not happening. Funny was in Kansas City all weekend long did not run and drove to work on Monday and parked in the garage at work did not run. Amazing when you have someone’s car in your shop and something like this you say happens all day while you are detailing their car you don’t call. Needless to say last time we take any of our vehicles to Gaines for detailing.

- Professional customer service - Excellent pricing - Beyond proficient work on car detailing and moving experience I have used Gaines for several of their services over the years; Car detailing and moving services. My father always spoke so highly of them and took my car to get cleaned there for years. They did my first move for me last year and were extremely professional! From the scheduling service to the movers themselves. I never had to call and make follow-ups, they were on top of it. The owners are very friendly and have always talked to me like a daughter. Not to mention, I LOVE supporting a highly successful black owned business.

I'm writing this after hearing some other people mention their experiences here. I brought my car maybe eight months ago. They didn't clean/detail anything, just wiped down a few places. They also somehow removed a huge portion of paint from the side of my car. When I picked it up, it had been parked along the street, close to an obstruction so I wasn't able to notice it before I got home. They didn't return my mats at first-- they said my car had none when I dropped it off. I insisted and lo and behold they found them in the back room. The owner made it right after I complained, they actually detailed the car interior and repaired the paint. But I will never go back there & will never recommenced them again to anyone. Before this incident, I'd gone twice and had excellent results. The quality of their employees just isn't there anymore.

They did such an amazing job detailing my car. I had some milk spill in the back of my car. Despite all my efforts I could not get rid of the smell. Gaines made it look and smell like new. The staff and Mr. Rodney are so kind, quick and efficient. Highly recommend Gaines.

Tony and Rico were absolutely amazing! I have a large family and a lot of furniture and they were so nice, helpful, efficient and respectful! They even helped my elderly dad out of a U-Haul with his walker. Highly recommend if you’re looking for movers! Will definitely use them again if we move!

Have an older car that was dirty inside and out. I left the car in the morning and was given a ride home (I live within Columbia). They picked me up after the car was done later that day. My car looked great. I would definitely recommend it. I have another car I plan on getting detailed. People were very friendly and did a great job!

Complaint 1. Gaines Car Detailing damaged my car's headliner and refused to resolve it. Complaint 2. The owner didn't hold true to his quoted price of $85 for an interior cleaning for my sedan raising the price to $95. Also, I never received any documentation of the quoted price of $85. Compliant 3. Wouldn't release my car until I paid an inflated price. Complaint 4. Gaines Car Detailing had no concerns at all for the customer's issues of pricing and damage to the car headliner. Also, Gaines had no interest in resolving the issues at hand. Gaines never even looked at the damage done to my car, despite telling him about the damage. Complaint 5. Service was lengthy totaling 6hrs for interior cleaning alone. No update on the estimated time of completion even upon calling them. Complaint 6. The business should take before and after pictures of vehicles, so there is complete transparency between both customers and the business. Pictures were not taken by the business of my car's interior. Complaint 7. Upon arrival to pick up my car, Gaines never told me where my car was or got it for me. Complaint 8. The owner never called me back as requested via the receptionist to settle the matter of raising my price from $85 to $95. Complaint 9. Having a damaged headliner hurts my business as an Uber driver. Complaint 10. No respect for veterans or customers. No veteran discounts. Complaint 11. I still need to clean the spots that Gaines "Detail" missed. Event Details On Wednesday, Oct 6, 2021, I drove my car to Gaines Car Detailing to get a price estimate on it. The owner quoted me for $85 on 10/6/2021, stating there was no veteran discount because his rates stayed the same for everyone. I made an appointment for Friday, Oct 8, 2021, at 9 am and arrived on time. I called for an update on my car estimated completion time and was only told they would call me. They called me late at 255pm according to my phone logs. Accordingly, to my phone record, the receptionist called me once more at 344pm. I was already nearby so I arrived at 346pm due to an appointment. Upon arrival, the receptionist showed me a receipt for $95. I told her I was quoted $85. She stated it was just $10. Upon hearing this I asked if I could talk to the owner to make it right. She went to look for the owner but then came back stating he was not at the shop but out driving. I asked the receptionist to have the owner call me. I also asked her what would you like me to do regarding payment? She responded by holding her hand out asking for my car key back. I told her I would just pay it now and have the owner settle it with me upon his call to me. (I did this because I had no transportation and needed my car.) They never told me where my car was or got it for me. While waiting for the call, I went to pick up my brother. That is when I noticed the cloth headliner was damaged and sagging down. The call never came so accordingly, my brother and I came back to the shop to see if the owner was there to discuss both the price and the damage done. When I arrived in front of Gaines, in my car with my brother as a witness, the owner was outside in plain view of my car and my brother and me, but completely ignored us while proceeding to go straight to his company van. I approached him at the parked van directly in front of his business and told him about the damage and a mistake in pricing in a professional way and asked him to make things right. He was confrontational, unempathetic, and insulted my occupation as an Uber driver. He stated the damage was already there before the cleaning. He never even looked at my car and persisted to argue with me about this. I have pictures proving otherwise that my headliner was intact before the cleaning. I told him I would contact the BBB and he stated that I needed to leave his business, which I did. I am resolving this with the BBB and the business at this time, hopefully, it won't require any further action. If you are going to get your car detailed, I highly recommend you go to a professional business.

I wouldn’t trust all of the positive reviews for the moving service. We have moved several times, both using professional moving companies as well as loading trucks, trailers, and pods ourselves, and we have NEVER experienced so much damage to our belongings. I contacted them right away to inform them of all the damage and it took weeks and several messages on my part before anyone even acknowledged the problems that were reported. Once they finally got back to us, they refused to take any responsibility for the damage that was caused by their lack of common sense when loading (for example, loading extremely heavy things on top of clearly marked fragile, lighter items and boxes). They simply emailed us back stating that it wasn’t their fault and they actually blamed us for the damage. Interesting, seeing as to how one of the guys (Rocko?) even made a comment the day of the move stating how impressed he was with our packing. He went as far as saying he could tell we’ve moved a lot based on “how well everything is packed, labeled, and staged” for them to load. Bottom line is this: if you care about the condition in which your belongings arrive at your new home, I would avoid using this company for moving services.

Gaines Moving handled our move across town yesterday and I can't praise them enough. The movers were courteous, professional and extremely efficient. They handled our possessions with speed and care and were also kind, approachable, and easy to work with. I hope I never have to move again, but if I do, I’m calling Gaines.

My husband Kurt asked Gaines Detailing on Illinois Avenue if they could power wash the undercarriage of my car. Owner Rodney said they could- their next door neighbor is Classic Whips auto body shop and they had a lift he could use. We called Thursday and were told the lift hadn't been available so the car wasn't done. We drove over there late Thursday afternoon to get our garage door opener (which we'd left in the car accidentally). We were shocked and horrified to see a bunch of paint over the passenger side rear wheel well was missing. The owner said, "Kurt, we're both businessmen. Things go wrong. You burn pizzas so you make new ones. I'll make it right." He told us he would have the car done by Saturday. I called again Saturday afternoon and an employee told me Rodney had made an appointment the following Monday to have the fender repainted next door at Classic Whips. Kurt immediately went there to talk to Rodney. Rodney told Kurt one of his employees, using a very powerful 300-degree steam cleaner, got too close to my car while working on something else nearby. Rodney said those machines were so hot that he could have removed all the paint from the car in a few minutes. Kurt told him he wanted to talk to Classic Whips and get references before any work was done. We planned to get several estimates from body shops we trusted, and assumed Rodney would pay for the damage. The car is a 40 year-old Rolls Royce with original paint and we needed someone who could accurately match the Mason Black color. On his way home, Kurt stopped in at Perry Collision Center on the next block. He showed the photos he'd taken and Perry gave Kurt a rough estimate of $2,000 to fix it. We went back to get my car on Monday afternoon, February 26. It was parked out front and Kurt looked underneath. He rolled out from under it with big clods of dirt in his hand- it had not been cleaned. When we went into the office, the woman behind the counter gave us our keys, a bill for $245 and an envelope. Rodney charged $95 for the wash and wax, and $150 for power spraying the underside. In the envelope was a $400 check for "Paint Peel." We asked to talk to Rodney. Kurt is a reasonable, non-confrontational guy. Kurt said, "Look Rodney, this is just a nightmare for all involved but we want to do the right thing." He again told Rodney he wanted to get several estimates before we repainted the fender. Rodney blew up. He told Kurt Classic Whips would do it for the $400, would guarantee the work, and that's all he'd pay. He then said the paint was already bubbled on that fender when we brought the car in. When Kurt tried to talk, Rodney just yelled over him. Kurt was gobsmacked by Rodney's outburst and just stood there. Then Rodney told us to forget the bill for the wash and wax and power cleaning. He yelled that we should just take the check, leave, and not come back. And if we wanted to hire an attorney, he'd see us in court. This was a horrible and extremely disappointing event. The car has been my daily driver for 21 years and we know every square inch of it. The paint was not bubbled in that area. We understand that accidents happen but Rodney made several big errors as far as we're concerned. He should have let us know immediately when the car was damaged. We now believe Rodney was hoping to stall us until he could have his friend next door repaint it and hope we didn't notice. It was Rodney's bad luck that we turned up unexpectedly to get our garage door opener. He should have allowed us to choose where to have the damage repaired. He should not have lied about the condition of the paint, especially since he'd already admitted to Kurt that his steam cleaner did the damage. He should never have lost his temper and been so rude when Kurt was calm and actually quite forgiving when we first asked to talk to him. All Kurt wanted was someone to power wash the undercarriage and now we'll be dealing with hundreds of dollars of additional expense and inconvenience when we do decide where to have it repaired. We'll never take another car to Gaines.

Took my car here after it got rained in. They did a great job getting all the water and mildew smell out, the car smells great. Everything was very shiny and clean. There were a few spots that were missed, but still a very impressive job. I dropped off a filthy car, and picked up a clean one. Who can complain about that?

This review is for the moving company! BROKE a dresser and a doll house, missing some prescription med and filed a report with police department. Marv asked for pictures I've sent them 2 times to the email they provided and still no one calls back. Marv is always at lunch when you call and again never calls back! Don't use them for moving. They steal and don't tie stuff down break furniture and the blame you! NEVER CALL YOU BACK! Don't use them!

I took my 75 stingray to their shop to get buffed out on a Friday morning. They called Saturday afternoon and said it was done. It was 400 dollars and they did a great job. I picked it up on Saturday at closing time. Once I left there I noticed that the front wheels where squealing. Got out and inspected it and couldn't notice anything unusual. I continued driving home. It was a 25 mile trip. Wheels squealed all the way home and the car pulled hard to the right. The front tires blew 5 miles from my house. Had to have it towed. This car was fine when I brought it in. It is clear that some one most likely took it for a joy ride and hit something knocking the front end out of alignment. That car wasn't like that when I brought it in. I called them this morning and let them know what happened. As I figured they denied everything. Lack of character and professionalism. Don't take your car there. No integrity and can't be trusted with your property. Again they did a good job on the buffing. I now have to pay 550 dollars for repairs

These guys are amazing! We've been booking with them over 10+ years. Great service, super friendly, and the outcome is always superb! Not sure why these guys aren't a 5 Star, but I think others may be too picky. :)

I had a bad experience with Gaines Detailing in Columbia, Missouri. From the moment I arrived, the customer service felt dismissive. No one greeted me or told me to wait. They just kept talking to each other. They told me my car would be ready in 24 hours. When I showed up at 9 AM next day, it wasn’t finished. I was told to come back at 2 PM. I had to get another Uber and returned at 4 PM, only to find that the inside was still dirty and the outside didn’t look cleaned at all. They should have called me. When I talked to the owner, he brushed it off and told me to bring the car back another day, as if doing that was easy or cheap. I would rather spend more $$ somewhere else than dealing with them again. I rely on Uber to get there, so every trip costs me time and money. He didn’t show any interest in even looking at the issues I pointed out. In my opinion, the whole experience was a waste of time. If you want to avoid frustration, look elsewhere. Consider this a warning based on what I went through. I right reviews based on what I experienced and this would be my worst experience dealing with businesses.
