June, the manager at the Providence Avis, went so far above and beyond my expectations that if there was a rating of 20 it wouldn't be high enough. I had 4 vans rented and wasn't going to be able to move them to the hotel until approximately 8pm that evening. My other three colleagues were on later flights that got in after the 6pm closing time. June asked if she and two of her employees drove 3 of the vans to my hotel if I would give them a ride back to her store. Of course I accepted and gave them a ride back following the van drop off. June came up with a solution that really made my situation less stressful. Not only did they help on pick up but drop off had presented a challenge as well. Not to worry June came to the rescue. With our departure schedule I was only able to get 3 vans returned at once. Following the drop off two of her employees went back with me, dropped us off, and drove the two vehicles back to Avis. Thank you isn't enough!!! Best rental experience EVER!!! I realize that not all Avis stores have the ability to provide this level of service but June is the type of manager/employee that Avis should be thankful they have represent their brand.

Do not rent here or from Avis period. Associate forgot to return my drivers license to me, and I didn't realize the mistake until I was too far from the location for it to be practical to return. Spent the next 4 days trying to get to a human who could help. No one at the local office a) answered their phone or b) attempted to contact ME (the decent thing to do). National customer service line was laughably bad. Sent me in circles, told me to keep calling the store (which I did over 60 times to no avail) and then told me they left a VM for the manager who "should be getting back to me." The manager claims she never received that VM. Someone isn't telling the truth and I don't care who it is as I'm done with Avis for good. Unbelievable.

I was given a vehicle with several issues. 1. The windshield wipers were dirty. I had to pull over and clean them before they would clear rain from the windshield. 2. The navigation system was outdated with incorrect exit numbers. 3. Most importantly, the front passenger side tire was UNSAFE for travel. About halfway through my trip/day the low tire pressure light came on and I immeadiately pulled into a parking lot and called roadside assistance. The guy who put the spare on for me discovered that the tire was completely worn down. To the point that the steel fibers were coming out of the tire! And there was a sizeable hole in the tire! Had I been traveling on a freeway or at a high speed, the tire would have blown and I would have lost control of the vehicle. The local office said they could not reimburse me as I prepaid online and claimed they would reach out to corporate. That was 24 hours ago. I've been charged the full amount and have yet to hear back from anyone.

Staff was friendly. We didnt realize how dirty the car was until we were on the road. Mentioned it when we returned it to a different staffer. He said "sorry. Our hose is broken" so sad. On the plus side. Much easier than going to a typical airport rental.

We had 15 minutes to drop off the car and catch a train. Carlos went above and beyond - recognized the look of panic on my face and drove us straight to the station! Amazing service - we’ll definitely be renting from Avis again!

Had a really bad experience. I prepaid. The magnetic swipe of my card was not working. They did not have chip reader. They could not enter the credit card information. I was turned down from any cash payment as security payment. Basically told me that we can’t do anything even though I had prepaid. Really bad. Please add a chip reader!!!

I've rented vehicles here a half dozen times already this year. The staff are nice and friendly, the cars are clean and nice. A few of them really needed some maintenance though. Unfortunately, the cars are more expensive here because they're the only rental place in downtown Providence. My big issue is they frequently tack on additional charges of $25 to $30 for some outrageous reason. My recommendation: When you bring the vehicle back, wait for them to check the car in and give you a final receipt. Update a month later: This time I waited for them to check the car in, and they told me everything was fine. I left and minutes later I receive a charge for $26 for not driving the car enough. Never again will I do business with Avis.

If I could give less than 1 star I would have. When we picked up our Chrysler Pacifica it was not only dirty but it had several scratches and scuffs and dents in it. We asked the guy to do a walk around and he refused. The tires were completely to the wear bars. The interior was dirty the compartments in the doors were sticky and we found used earplugs in the back and tissues in The stow n go compartments. The transmission was slipping and slamming when it shifted. We got concerned that we wouldn’t make it home from our trip to Canada. The car would only connect to the phone for the ride up there when we left to come home it randomly disconnected and would not allow any other phone to connect. Making it difficult to use the gps because now we had to keep it on the phone. Then when we returned the vehicle they charged us $1580. When I called customer service the first women was rude talking down to me. I hung up and called back and got a nice guy. He was able to see the problem and released one of the charges. Then gave me a $140 credit for all the issues with the van. When I opened my credit card I had 16 charges totaling $11,292. I called my credit card who is dealing with it now. But I have rented vehicles before and this is the first and last time I use Avis!

I don't leave reviews often but I had read a lot of negative reviews here when I was looking for a rental car in the area. Recently took a 2 day trip in the area and needed a car. I couldn't call directly to the office as others pointed out in their reviews, but I talked to a rep then was able to reserve a car online with the pay later option. Avis is a 10 min walk from the train station, they had my car waiting for me, check-in & return process were quick, car smelled good, it was clean, and ran well for the 2 days I drove it around.

Arrived with a reservation and told us we have no cars. When asked why didn’t they let us know they replied our systems don’t allow us to call customers to let them know. So we had to take another uber to the providence airport and get a car there. They were probably super lazy. Rental Companies never cared and will never care about customer service. They have monopolies and play the game. Welcome to america I guess lol. Spare yourself the hassle and go rent a car at the airport - it’s only about 15-20 mins further and there are always cars available

I had a terrible experience with the Avis location in Providence. Despite making a prepaid reservation and receiving a confirmation email, I was told there were no cars available when I arrived on time to pick up my rental. After being made to wait 15 minutes, the staff offered no solutions and were extremely rude. When I tried to insist that my confirmed reservation be honored, I was threatened with being removed from the premises or having the police called. I was forced to leave the location in freezing weather with no car and no assistance. This is by far the worst service I have ever experienced. Avis needs to seriously reconsider how they treat their customers. I would strongly advise others to avoid this location at all costs.

I arrived at the Avis location From a different state to return my current minilease and pick up a new one. The price quoted at the counter for the new lease was significantly higher than the one I had received via email. When I questioned it, no one could provide a clear explanation. The agent began altering the contract figures by hand, which felt unprofessional. Frustrated by the inconvenience, I raised my voice, but never used any violence. In response, the agent canceled my existing vehicle and refused to help me secure the new one, leaving me without a car and unable to get home or to work. This experience was extremely frustrating, and I’m very disappointed with Avis and with the customer service that i received

Just now (I was at the desk at 8:30 am on Friday may 23, 2025) tried to spend more money here, upgrade to a bigger car. I was ready to do it at any cost ($2000+) and the lady at the desk goes “NOT TODAY”. Ruined my trip, thanks lady. I get you have a line but you also have a job to do. Don’t come here if you need to change anything about your reservation. They’re not cool with it.

Was not given the Kia Soul I was expecting. Was given a very used Ford product that smelled like cigarette smoke. Car air conditioning failed after 15 minutes, I could not return the car as I was expected promptly at my destination. Spent a total of 8 hours over 3 days driving a vehicle that was always over 80 degrees and reached 86 at times. Worst car rental experience ever. Oh, spent 1-1/2 getting bounced around Avis "customer service".

DO NOT RENT FROM HERE - they won’t have a car for you and will leave you stranded. I had an incredibly horrible experience with this location. After reserving and pre-paying for a car, I was turned away and told there was no car for me. There was another group waiting for a car to “hopefully be returned” for them. I asked for assistance in getting a car from the airport location and I was given a generic customer service number. After asking numerous times if they could assist in getting me a vehicle from another Avis location I was sent away and repeatedly told that there was nothing they could do, they just didn’t have a car. Refused to help me contact other locations for a car. Worst rental experience I’ve ever had. The folks at the T.F. Greene location were lovely and told me that he could have contacted them to better assist me. TLDR; didn’t have a car for me when I had a paid reservation, rude and egregiously unhelpful.

Worst place to rent a car!! Please do not rent a car from this location at all cost. Do yourself a favor an take an Uber to the airport to rent. You will save lots of time and avoid the actitud and the rudeness of the ladies working on this location. Definitely the worst experience renting cars!

I don't really get the bad reviews. The place was clean and efficient. You walk a few blocks from the train and can pick up a car in about 10 minutes. We were very happy about our experience and that there was a car rental option downtown.

Very easy pickup and drop off. Good price. Being that this is a smaller location, I believe the negative reviews are likely due to there being a limited amount of vehicles and its basically first come-first serve EVEN if you pay in advance. Luckily I had a good experience.

Rental a nice VW SUB from the Providence, RI Avis counter located downtown. The Avis people were really nice and professional. The car was super clean. Upon my return of the car, the counter attendant even drove me back to the Amtrak station. I would highly recommend renting from this Avis location.
