-This particular store gets 4 stars b/c the employees are efficient & friendly rather consistently. Thank you. -However, overall there seems to be frequent empty shelves w/ carts of stock not unboxed in front of these empty shelves that are usually home to what I came in to buy. As w/ all Dollar General stores lately it seems, boxes stay parked idle on roller carts in front of empty or nearly empty shelves en masse, for large chunks of time. I don't know if it's an issue w/ too little hours available for stock to be put out on the floor sooner or what, but it must be kept in mind that there are alot of stores selling these same products. It's all about presentation & if product is consistently unavailable then this will become expected and Dollar General stores will be passed over for their competitor stores. Bad business.

We stopped here in Portage for some quick camping supplies. Including but limited to a click lighter and some pop. It was a little run down due to heavy foot traffic but I was able to find exactly what we needed and was looking for while visiting the West side of Michigan.

While it can be convenient to stop here, I've learned to drive the extra couple miles down the road for something. No service, lines can be long, and place can be quite messy with new stock laying in front of the shelves. You'll never find more than two people working, and it shows. Unless you're walking, go the extra to avoid this place.

The store is filthy and chronically understaffed. I have not seen a garbage can in the exterior for the last year so expect to see the parking lot filled with trash. (They have placed a garbage can near the entrance but rarely empty it) The floor, windows and store in general are dirty and poorly maintained. Be prepared to wait to check out because it's incredibly rare they will open a second register.

The store is cluttered, I stocked, carts in the way, and the people are too high to fix anything…

The store has been dirty every single time I have been in there. The store is always disorganized and not well-stocked. Sometimes the staff is nice but most of the time they are rude which is understandable because it's not in the best area and just about every time I've been in there there has been some kind of theft. It's pretty seedy but it's still a Dollar General that's about all I can say about it.

This location has gone downhill so much lately. It is so unbelievably messy and full of stock carts, you can't even get down an aisle. God forbid anyone ever need toilet paper, because you'll have to move carts out of your way. Almost every shelf has things just thrown on it, or better yet, throw in a pile on the floor. Two people can't even get down the same aisle at the same time. It has looked like this since before Christmas. Every aisle looks like this. Not just one or two. None of the employees are pleasant. No one wants to help. I can't really blame them, working in this type of environment cannot be easy.

I continue to be disappointed by their digital coupons. Even the lady in front of me told the cashier she didn't use the digital coupons because they don't come off for her. I tried today, my digital coupons didn't come off. I wanted to use the $5 off of $25 and the cashier told me I didn't have enough for my purchase so I added something to my purchase and she said everything came off. I cashed out, got to the car looked at my receipt and three of my digital coupons did not come off and the 5 for 25 didn't come off. I'm not using the digital coupons again.

We visited looking for items that shall remain nameless, and we unfortunately did not find any. However we did find a few other items and got a chance to chat with the manager for a little bit. She was very kind, unlike other stores who try to act clueless and make you feel little. This manager was awesome. Also met a lady in need there and had the opportunity to help her. Very good experience overall.

They have a good selection of last minute needs. Some decor items. Don't try to make your home good housekeeping but they can get you started. Not as money saving as some think. I could really do better at Meijer and walmart If you need it quick and now something close they work.

Worst DG I've ever stepped foot in. The floors look as of they haven't been mopped since 2010, rolltainers everywhere, shelves bare with the exception of product being in any place but the correct location (obviously the last recovery session was when the floors were last cleaned), absolute disgrace. Cashier was rude and eating chips as she rang up my merchandise! What?! Skip this one if you'd like basic customer service!

Store opens at 8 AM, get there at 8:03 AM and the store manager is just pulling up. Her hair was not combed and she had an attitude. Went in opened store, as I waited outside after a couple minutes (8:06) I was allowed to come in. I grabbed my 3 items got to register and Manager was already in backroom, had to wait a few more minutes then she came out on her personal phone and finally rung me up. This store is messing and poorly managed. Please hire better staff. PS. I wanted to give ZERO STARS but I had to give at least one to leave my review.

This place is nasty. Hardly anything in stock, the store is just plain trashed. What's wrong with adding an additional cashier when super busy? I will not stop into this pithole ever again!

The store is constantly poorly stocked, a cluttered mess and half the time closed during business hours. In the off chance they actually have the item you stopped for, expect a 15 min wait as there’s a single worker operating the entire store. For convenience, I skip this place and go to the Family Dollar on Cork Street. I’m surprised this location is still operating.

Just close the damn store for good!!! Why is this store always closed early? People plan stuff based on your posted hours. The other dollar general has nothing in stock. Close a couple stores, focus on a few and treat your employees better! Stop wasting our tine!!!!

This store should be closed permanently! It is extremely dirty, bare shelves, lazy rude employees, prices marked were not what they’re charging. Half of the items I purchased were 25cents or higher in price at the register, but who wants to go back in to get your money back when the wait in line to check out was more than 15 minutes with only 2 people in front of me! (There was 5 but 3 people got tired of waiting, dropped their items and left)! I will NEVER stop at this store again!

This store is a mess :( I was there last night. The girls were really friendly, but the owner needs to step in. They need all hands on deck to clean the store, stock & organize the shelves. The store is dirty & unorganized. There are boxes of supplies everywhere. I was looking through the bins to find what I needed. Let everyone work 1 hr of overtime after hours.

We feel horrible for the staff that were working this evening because they don't have any air conditioning in the store. It was definitely a hundred degrees in that building 35 minutes ago!!!! Great job staff pushing 🫸 🫷 through it!!!

I’ve had multiple experiences at this Dollar General location that raise concerns about pricing accuracy and customer service. On two separate visits, items rang up higher than the shelf label indicated. While Michigan law requires stores to honor posted prices, staff seemed unfamiliar with this and hesitant to process refunds or provide the Scanner Error Law bonuses they’re required to. I appreciate that a regional manager reached out and offered a gift card after I reported the issue, and the clerk on my second visit was polite and helpful. However, the store still lacks clear or accurate shelf labels on key items like beverages and dairy, making it difficult to shop confidently. I hope Dollar General follows through on their commitment and invests in better training and staffing to ensure pricing transparency and smoother checkout experiences. Until then, I recommend anyone who shops at Dollar General double-check their receipts and be aware of their rights under the law.
